Long-term news apps and graphics in the public interest.
The highlight of my time at ProPublica was being the main reporter of a story on the use of metal detectors in NYC public schools.
I spent a summer working in the agile & creative 2013 two-person News Dev team. We pair-programmed a fair amount, and turned around graphics from a day to two weeks.
For a year, I was the only news developer at the NYDN, there as an intern.
I covered the administation as a news deputy, and churned out a fair bit of writing:
The first two stories are investigations, one conducted over a semester. The rest were interesting one-offs.
Sometimes code and words can't express things.
